When young people start travelling independently, parents naturally worry. I know I did, and I still do. They may be young adults, but they never really stop being our children.

It isn't because we want to hold them back. Quite the opposite. We want them to explore, build confidence, experience different cultures and enjoy the freedom that comes with travelling independently.

But we also know how quickly a small decision, a moment of distraction or simply being unfamiliar with a situation can change the direction of a trip.

A lost passport, a stolen phone, the wrong taxi, a convincing scam, pressure from someone they've just met, or not knowing what to do when something feels wrong can turn an exciting experience into a stressful — and sometimes serious — situation.

In the wider context of global travel, serious incidents remain rare. Most young people travel, explore, and return home with amazing memories and some don't. But that doesn’t stop parents from worrying, especially when their children are travelling independently, staying in unfamiliar places, meeting new people, or making decisions far from home.
